Skipping Christmas Presents

This year Y and I are skipping Christmas presents for each other.  We've had such an expensive month year that we just need a little break from spending.

I used to wonder why people would ever do this because I loved getting Christmas presents from Y.  I now get it.  It doesn't change the meaning of Christmas and it actually takes a lot pressure off.

Do you exchange gifts with your significant other?  Have you ever skipped a year?

  1. We do sometimes if we have the extra $$, if not we skip it. This year it was a surround sound speaker system. :)

  2. We did a few years where the limit was $5 or $10, or went together to buy something we wanted. We spent time together, went to church, drank eggnog and loved the holiday just the same, and actually $5 was quite funny! Our financial future and goals is so much more important and Christmas is so much bigger than presents.

  3. We've gone back & forth - full gifts, just small stocking items. It mostly varies based on our budget. Last year we did a quick weekend getaway. This year I bought him a gift, but really don't want anything. I'd much rather spend time together than get a gift. We always open a bottle of champagne & have at "at home" date. :-)

  4. My husband and I stopped giving each other presents before we married. It's too much pressure to give the perfect gift. We each buy ourselves things throughout the year. Why do I need my husband buying me something I don't really want but am now obligated to keep because he gave it to me? Having nights out together is all we need. Besides it's not just xmas, it's valentines day, birthdays, AND Christmas. I'm so very happy this way.

  6. We haven't done gifts in years, though this year we're taking a family vacation as our gift. There's always a house renovation or a trip or something that we prefer to buying gifts. Not very romantic I suppose, but we've been together for 15 years and see it as more practical.

  7. We did small gifts this year ($20-range) and they were things we needed. But after this last week we may not exchange gifts at Christmas anymore. We have so much already.
