Guess What?!?

I'm 6 weeks pregnant. While we're thrilled that we're going to have a baby, I'm less than thrilled with how I feel.

To all of those reading this post that wishes it was you, don't give up.

My posts may be a little sporadic now as I have been going to bed around 8 or 8:30.

Credit Card Debt Free! Woohoo!

I checked my bank account this morning and saw my reimbursement from my employer. I promptly paid off our Best Buy card. We are now credit card debt free. We fully intend to stay away from credit card debt. We still had another ten months before we would've accrued interest. However, if Y or myself would have lost a job, it would've been very tight with that debt out there and only one income.

Now on to paying off my student loan. YAY!!!!

Snow Day Again!!

We are all home once again for another snow day. It is blizzarding here. Getting a bit sick if this...

We were so bored today that we dug out all of our change so Y could look for rare coins. We have never turned in our change since we got married almost nine years ago. I'm not sure how much money we have but we have over $500 in just quarters. We keep saving it for something special but I have no idea what. This change has now been moved 6 times over the years. Maybe we could spend it on a vacation for our ten year wedding anniversary. Thoughts?

2 Week Menu Plan

I have a menu lined up for the next two weeks, everything bought, and a hundred bucks left in our food budget for March. This menu planning does really work.

Pizza
Tacos
Chicken Caesar wraps
Spaghetti
Hamburgers
Tuna melts
Steak with baked potatoes
Little smokies with baked beans
Cheese ravioli with sauce
Meatloaf with potatoes and veggies
Turkey brats with pasta salad
Bean soup
Homemade pizza
Gingery fish and noodles
Jambalaya

We do eat veggies with every meal but I didn't put on the menu because we just have whatever we want that night. Also, I don't specify the day we're having stuff because I like switching it around.

We got our refund from the accountant yesterday for $125.

We both got paid today and I made another payment to BB. It now has a $600 balance on it until I get my reimbursement from my work. I will then pay it in full.

It is snowing and sleeting here so it will be a quiet weekend at home. What are your plans?

Best Buy is Going Down

I decided that I would pay Best Buy in full this month. I hate credit card debt and am more than ready to be done with it. Prior to today, the balance was $2650. I received daycare flex reimbursement and promptly made a $1050 payment. The balance now sits at $1600. I will get this paid off this month.

The Cost of Snow

This has been a very expensive winter in regards to snow removal. Let me give you a little background. We live in the country on a gravel road with a long driveway. Our first winter here was two years ago. We had an agreement our neighbor for plowing us out at $40 per time. It was also a snowy winter and we ended up hiring our neighbor almost every day. He would plow us out so we could get to work and it would blow so bad we couldn't even drive in when we got home.

Last winter, Y bought a cheap old tractor from a friend for $2000 and a blower for it for $2200. He did not use it one time last year because of the lack  of snow.

This winter we've gotten so much use of this tractor. Y has been blowing out our drive on average 4-5 times per week since mid-January. We've been spending $40-50 per week on gas for the tractor. It's freakin expensive and we're so ready for it to be over.

Y would like a new-to-us compact tractor. One would easily run us about $20,000 for one that's 10 years old. Tractors are spendy and hold their value well. We could probably sell our current tractor/blower for around $6000.

One more thing to save for. Sigh...

Tax Situation Figured Out

It has taken me over three weeks to calm down enough to write this post. I wrote previously about how I was worried that we would owe taxes but I was using a new accountant to figure it all out. This all turned into a nightmare from hell.

It started by me dropping everything off with the accountant and him spending all of two minutes talking to me about our situation. Fast forward two weeks later and I get a call on Valentines Day that they're ready. I go pick them up and pay the shocking amount of $375 only to find out that we owe over $4500. I figured that he was for sure wrong but I had to pay his ridiculous fee to pick them up. At this point, I'm physically sick but determined to find the mistake in my tax return.

After spending two hours at work, I found his mistake. He had calculated that we owed Alternative Minimum Tax and we did not. I call him immediately and he says he will look into it.

A few days later, I get a call that they're all fixed. We owe $655 for federal and $159 for state. I asked him about a refund on the amount that we paid. He said he was too busy but I should check back after April 15 and I would get a partial refund.

I so should have used my old accountant who is 45 minutes away or used Turbo Tax.

What a freakin headache! Have you ever heard anything like this?

Hiring An Interior Decorator

I want to hire an interior decorator. I have no talent in this area but I would like my house decorated. We have a few things put up on the walls but it by no means looks like it is really decorated. A friend if mine us buying a new house and she gave the decorator a $1000 budget. I'm waiting to see what results she has on that budget.

I won't be doing this soon. I will get our Best Buy card and student loan paid off before I do anything. I will save up for the cost of it and stick to a budget that Y and I agree upon.

I know that the cheapest solution would be to get help from a friend. The one friend who is gifted in this area is less than thrilled that we built a new house. She has acted weird towards me since we finished our house.

Would you ever pay for an interior decorator? Are you naturally gifted in this area?
