2013 Taxes Filed and Funny Comments

I filed our taxes on Friday because we had our required docs. I was an eager beaver to find out where we stood. We are getting back a combined federal and state refund of $1877. Yippee!!! I don't care what anybody says, it us way better to get a refund than owe. We owed last year and it was sucked.

My sister visited this weekend from New York. I love her dearly and only get to see her a couple times a year. She is single and doesn't have (or want) kids. She was happy to hang out with my kids but I could see that she was overwhelmed at times. She said the following comments **not meanly**: "I can see why rich people rely so much on their nannies," "Babies really are a lot of work, huh?" "Wow! babies are a constant work in progress." However, she handled the weekend well. She dried Lil Punk's hair, helped her decorate a Valentine box, and played Old Maid with us. We are lucky to have her visit from NY.

Have a good week, Everybody!

  1. That's a pretty good chunk of change there :) I can't wait to get all of my tax slips. Hopefully I will be getting a refund as well. I have friends who say they do not want children too. They say it's less about the money and more about the freedom.

    1. I hope you get a refund. I would think you gave quite a few deductions with the different properties :)

    1. Yes, but it is the best feeling in the world. I stare at my baby in awe and wonderment every day.

  4. I hope to get about the same amount back as you. Even though i know it's money I paid out in taxes and they're just giving me my own money back it's still such a thrill!!

  5. It sounds like a great visit. Sounds like my SIL before she had kids. She yelled at my kids to shut up once. I just laughed, the kids were beyond hyper and so happy to see her. I bet it wouldn't go over well if I said that to her kids though.
I'm so glad that you are getting money back. We are too, thank goodness. I know that miserable feeling when you owe. It was awful.

  6. I'm glad you are getting a nice chunk back. I think, we should break even this year or, maybe, a couple hundred back. Keeping fingers crossed, we don't end up owning...

  7. As the mother of a 3 year old and 3 week old, I kind of feel like your sister most days lately :p

  8. I work for the state early intervention program here (we do OT, PT, Speech, and Teacher services for under 3 yrs). We have a mom who is 16 with a baby who has some medical issues. She keeps cancelling her appointments. She left her PT a message the other day "wow, this is hard!". YEP!!!!

    Congrats on your refund!

  9. I like breaking even with my taxes, but if I could get a refund and not get deducted extra in my taxes, I wouldn't say no to it! Babies ARE a lot of work. I'm not a baby person either, but I wont turn my nose the other way if there's a diaper that needs changing. I only think that I may have to change it a few times, but the parents have to do it daily! Once won't kill me. Glad you had a good time with your sister!

  10. We had 3 kids over this weekend and it was a zoo! But good fun :)

I'm still waiting on my tax slip from my employer but I did go online to do an estimate and it looks like I'm going to get back at least $2000. Its only that high because I made $5000 in RSP (tax deductible retirement) contributions last year :) Getting something is better than paying, but I also like to not get too much back because then the government had been getting a free loan from me all year!

  11. I have read both books, but perhaps I really do need to go back to them in the light of my enjoying the latest volume of Grandville so much. (I did enjoy the previous two, but not nearly so much.) The truth is, I've always admired Mr Talbot's work, and have on occasion really enjoyed it too. But on the whole,
