Florida Suggestions

We are going to Orlando on January 22 through 27.  We are staying in Kissimmee.  We are renting a car so we can get around.  This is what we plan to do:
Airboat ride to see wildlife
Sea World
Lunch/tea with characters-- we are not going to Disney so this limits where we can go but suggestions are welcome
Cocoa beach--maybe?

Any other ideas?  We want to relax but still have fun.  We don't think Disney would be very fun with Baby G who is almost 14 months.  Any suggestions about the plane ride with two little ones?  I'm very nervous about that.

Any and all advice is appreciated.  Thanks.

  1. Disney would be fun with a 14 month old. We love it there. Have a good time on your vacation. I really enjoy reading your blog.

    1. Thank you. I'm just worried about our little guy being patient.

  2. I've heard Sea World in Orlando is awesome but I've never been there.

I also agree Disney would still be fun with a 14 month old. We did all 4 Disney parks when our youngest was only 6 months old. During off season the lines aren't that long. Plus most of the rides are more about the story and aren't very wild. I was able to ride most rides with my 6 month old on my lap and they have parent swap if the ride is too wild to hold a child on.

Not sure if he's still there but Universal Studios has a live Barney show if your kids are into Barney. We saw it when my oldest was about 3 years old. It was in a small theater and seeing her face when Barney showed up was priceless. Such a great memory.

We did Cocoa Beach in January once but it was just ok. We stayed about an hour on the beach while the kids played with the sand. The water was too cold. Then we walked around the shops in the town but most were pretty expensive.

There's a huge McDonald's in Kissimmee or Orlando. I think this is the website for it: It's one of the biggest and they have a separate bistro/cafe that you can order "fancier" type food items made to order right in front of you. There's a giant arcade and play area as well. We spent a few hours there one time and Big R had fun. I was pregnant with Little R at the time.

How long of a plane ride is it? We've flown a lot with our kids since they were really little. Here's a post I wrote about preparing to fly with them the last time. The main thing is to pack lots of fun snacks that they don't usually get and new little toys (think dollar store items). Then put them all in a bag and pull them out as needed. Just have lots of choices to keep them busy. One that my girls really liked when they were young and didn't cost anything was an old wallet that I filled with used up gift cards or old store cards that I didn't use anymore. They liked to pull everything out and play with the zipper and wallet compartments.

    1. We have a 45 minute flight and then a layover and a 3 hour flight. The reason I don't think it would be fun us because Baby G wants to walk everywhere and is not content to just sit anywhere. Plus he still takes a 2-3 hour nap and he needs it. It just sounds like a lot of hassle and money for about 4 hours of fun (8 am to noon) at best. I'm going to check out that McDonalds. That sounds like fun.

  3. We loved Cocoa beach. I would just wing it when you get there. Have a great and safe trip!
